We’ve been through the military relocation process ourselves — and we’ve helped over 100 military and RCMP clients do the same. Let’s make your move your smoothest one yet.

Selling Your Home Should Feel Empowering — Not Stressful.

Most real estate agents will tell you they work with military clients. We’ll tell you something different — we are that client.

Don served 13 years as an Infantry Officer with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, completing multiple inter-provincial postings across Canada. He’s bought and sold real estate through the military relocation process from the other side of the table — as the member navigating tight timelines, IRP directives, and the pressure of finding a home before the HHT ends.

Jamie is a military spouse who has moved across the country, planting roots in unfamiliar places more than once. She knows what it feels like to be far from home, searching for a neighbourhood that will actually feel like one — with schools, community, and everything that matters when you’re raising a family.
Together, we bring something no amount of real estate experience alone can replicate — a genuine understanding of what you’re going through, and exactly what it takes to make it work.

We Work Where
You’re Selling

Getting posted involves more than just finding a house. There’s a specific process — IRP directives, posting messages, HHT timelines, and relocation funding through BGRS/SIRVA — and navigating it efficiently makes a real difference in your outcome.

We stay current on the latest CANFORGENS, IRP policies, and relocation directives so you don’t have to explain your situation from scratch. We know what your posting message means, what your entitlements cover, and how to structure your HHT to make the most of every day you’re here.

We’ve helped over 100 military clients successfully purchase or sell in the Halifax area — and the reviews speak for themselves.

Your HHT Window Is Short. We Make Every Day Count.

Your HHT window is short and the stakes are high. When you book your House Hunting Trip with The McCooeye Group, we block off our schedule entirely for you — no double bookings, no splitting our attention between clients.

Before you arrive, we’ll have already done the work. We research properties that match your criteria, map out efficient showing routes, and make sure you’re seeing the right homes in the right areas — so you’re not wasting a single day of your trip.

Our goal is to have you under contract with enough time remaining to complete inspections before you return to your place of origin.

Here’s how to set yourself up for success:

1. Reach Out Early: The moment your posting message comes through, contact us. The earlier we connect, the better we can prepare for your arrival and the more options we’ll have ready when you land.

2. Get Familiar with the Market: Before your trip, we recommend setting up an account at viewpoint.ca — a Nova Scotia real estate platform where you can see historical transaction data, what homes are listing and selling for, and get a realistic sense of the market before you arrive.

3. Reserve Your HHT: Once your HHT dates are approved by your chain of command, reach out and lock us in. We’ll confirm availability, start preparing your property shortlist, and make sure everything is ready to go the day you arrive.

Everything You Need to Know
About Buying in Nova Scotia

What if I’m being posted out of Halifax and need to sell quickly?2026-03-31T16:04:59-03:00

Posting out comes with its own set of pressures and timelines. We’ll assess your property, give you an honest market evaluation, and develop a pricing and marketing strategy designed to get your home sold on a schedule that works with your posting date. We’ve helped many members sell successfully under tight timelines and we know how to move efficiently without leaving money on the table.

What areas near CFB Halifax and 12 Wing Shearwater do you cover?2026-03-31T16:04:42-03:00

We work across the Halifax Regional Municipality and East Hants, which covers virtually all of the communities military and RCMP members typically consider when posted to CFB Halifax or 12 Wing Shearwater — including East Hants, Bedford, Dartmouth, Halifax Peninsula, Sackville, Fall River, Hammonds Plains, and Eastern Passage. If you’re unsure which area might suit your lifestyle and commute, that’s one of the first conversations we’ll have.

Can I buy a home in Halifax before my HHT if I haven’t been there yet?2026-03-31T16:04:03-03:00

We work with many members who need to make decisions remotely or with limited time on the ground. Virtual tours, detailed video walkthroughs, and thorough written breakdowns of each property are part of how we support long-distance clients. That said, we always recommend viewing properties in person during your HHT whenever possible — especially given the investment involved. We’ll make sure your time here is as productive as possible.

What happened to BGRS — who is handling military relocation now?2026-03-31T16:03:35-03:00

BGRS (Brookfield Global Relocation Services) previously held the contract for the Canadian Armed Forces Integrated Relocation Program. That contract has since transitioned to SIRVA (also referred to as Serva). Your relocation support and IRP entitlements are still in place — the administrator has simply changed. We stay current on these changes so we can guide you through the process accurately regardless of who holds the contract.

Does The McCooeye Group work with RCMP members as well as military?2026-03-31T16:02:59-03:00

Yes. We work with both Canadian Armed Forces members and RCMP members navigating relocation to the Halifax and East Hants area. While the specific relocation programs and policies differ between the CAF and RCMP, the fundamentals of finding the right home on a tight timeline are the same — and we’re experienced with both.

What is an HHT and how does it work in Nova Scotia?2026-03-31T16:02:39-03:00

A House Hunting Trip (HHT) is an authorized period of time and funding provided through the Integrated Relocation Program (IRP) that allows Canadian Armed Forces members and RCMP members to travel to their new posting location to find housing. In Nova Scotia, your HHT gives you a set number of days to view properties, make an offer, and ideally have a property under contract before you return. We work exclusively with you during your HHT — no double bookings — and we prepare thoroughly before you arrive to make the most of every day you’re here.
